I want to raise people's awareness of this problem.

I told my husband what you said about needing to tranquilize the bears and take them to the forests again rather than killing them, and that we can spread more acorns and nuts in those places to help them survive.

But his reaction was that to give them food like that was unnatural and against Mother Nature's intended way. Survival of the fittest, and all that philosophy. I didn't know what to say to him.

I think his reaction is typical: Don't think too seriously about a solution. Just regret that the bear population is reducing by the situation's outcome;
they can't find food, so they search among humans and we're threatened so we kill them.

I felt saddened to hear him not want to protect the bears' lives, like you. I admire your resolve to fight for the rights of animals. I hope your blog can help others think about some news' items in a new light and be moved to a more compassionate response.

Hang in there, Chandora-san!!

When I heard about the bears this time, I just couldn’t turn my face away from the problem and if I had closed my eyes and pretended I couldn’t do anything, I felt nothing would ever change.

I happened to read in my friend’s blog her suggestion that we gather acorns for the bears this year. It was a simple first step I could take to help them. And so I decided to do it.

It is my belief that if we help the bear species (or any animal life), we are really helping ourselves.

The things we do with nature (be it reforesting with evergreens or whatever) will always reflect back on our own lives. For the bears, and indeed for ourselves as well, we must find a path we can follow together that promotes peace between us.
Sal
